I've practised privately, sat on the senior design team for a leading developer, and co-owned an award-winning architectural firm. But it was when my husband and I tackled our own renovations (three of them) that I saw a different side of the industry. Without my "architect" title in full view, I was treated as a mum with a baby on her hip, not a professional. I heard things like "We'll just wait for your husband."
