No one ever says “I want to create an ‘OK’ home”, but so many end up that way.
Here’s 3 tips to help you avoid it in your home design.
This is Episode 247.
Something I know from all the years I’ve been in this industry is this:
No one sets out to renovate and build their future home with this wish: “I want to create an ‘ok’ home.”
Not once have I had that as a brief. Not once have I had a client come to me, when creating their long-term family home, and say “I only want an ‘ok’ home”.
And yet, all over the suburbs and streets, where people are building and renovating, unknown compromises are being made as people create homes that don’t function well, and don’t feel great.
Well, not as great as they could, with the same money spent on making different decisions.
All the time I see people ending up with ‘ok’ homes because they don’t know what they don’t know.
And so, in this episode, I want to take you through three tips to avoid this in your project. So you can be better prepared to visualise and imagine what a functional and feel good home can really be for you.
As I said upfront, in this episode I’m going to help you avoid how to end up living in an ‘ok’ home.
And, believe it or not, that actually starts by acknowledging your fears when it comes to creating your future home.
So often in my work with homeowners, and especially those who come to work with me inside my flagship program, HOME Method, I hear about their fears and concerns about renovating and building.
And whilst these fears will get expressed in different ways, they really boil down to four main themes.
It can be hard to visualise and imagine how something can be better functionally, and help you feel better, if you’ve not had firsthand experience of something better, and can’t picture what your future lifestyle will look like and need from a home.
So, how can you get more insight into this?
If you don’t get to live in or experience many different homes in your life, and you are only going to build or renovate once or maybe twice in your life, how can you rehearse what is needed from a home before you create it permanently for yourself?
How can you anticipate what your future home might need in its design, finishes and fixtures, to support you better in your future lifestyle?
How can you learn what you need to know so you don’t end up with a home that is an unknown compromise?
One that you’ve invested so much time and money into, but doesn’t realise the full potential of what was possible with your budget and your site to create a fantastic result?
And how can you be better equipped to make great choices for yourself and your family, and avoid ending up with an ‘ok’ home?
Learn more as I take you through three tips, to help you prevent the unknowing compromises many make that leaves them with an ‘ok’ home design
